Children & Youth

Our philosophy… is to help children have an experience of God that gives meaning to their lives…an experience that helps them know themselves as beloved and which encourages them to respond to others and to life, with compassion and love. It is our belief that we are transformed when we witness to the well lived lives of others….when we explore the truths behind the stories of our faith and then see where these truths intersect with our own lives. But most of all, we are transformed by love.

The Sunday School teachers at St. David’s share the stories of the Christian faith and help children and youth discover for themselves how they relate to their lives. They help children to recognize and express their encounters with the sacred. They live their abundant faith in the presence of the children and above all else, they love them.

A thriving children’s programme…There are roughly one hundred participants in our children and youth programmes, from infants to senior high school youth. Each Sunday children attend the first fifteen minutes of worship and then are invited to age specific Sunday School classes. If you are visiting or new to the church, accompany your child to the Music Room when the children leave the sanctuary and your child will be welcomed by a teacher there.

Infant and Toddler Care: The nursery is open when Sunday school children leave the sanctuary to attend classes. Visitors are always welcome and there is no charge.

Youth Groups: In addition to Sunday School, children in grades 4-7 (junior youth) and senior youth, grades 8-12, are invited to participate in youth group activities throughout the year. Both youth groups meet regularly and are provided with a loving and supportive environment in which to learn about themselves and their faith through participation in social events, outreach to the community, and worship.

Information: For further information about Sunday School or Youth Group events, please feel welcome to contact Colleen Blair, Minister for Children, Youth and Families, at 604 922 3961 or email colleen@stdavidsunited.com
